No. 12 Aptos (14-9) at No. 5 Carmel (14-6), 4 p.m.
The Mariners certainly didn't gather a lot of respect as Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champions with the No. 12 seed, although two of their non-league losses are to teams ranked ahead of them.
While Carmel mysteriously struggled in the Mission Trail Athletic League, going 1-3 in its last four games, it posted impressive wins over San Benito and Notre Dame during non-league play.
Jocelyne Bruno and Rachael Carroll lead the Padres in hits this spring while Anna Buzan and Kendra Hyles shared the team lead in runs batted in and homers.
Aptos has been involved in a lot of slugfests, with Shea Garcia hitting .478 with five home runs and 33 runs batted in. Teammate Martina Churchill hit .452.
Pitching is critical in the postseason and the Padres have a pair of arms in Jessica Pavloff and Jaclyn Hyles.
