Central Coast Section Division II Playoffs
Wednesday's game
No. 15 South San Francisco (16-9) at No. 2 Santa Catalina (17-1), 4 p.m.
Perhaps more impressive than the county high 15 game winning streak is how the Cougars took care of business in posting an undefeated Mission Trail Athletic League season.
Five of Santa Catalina's last seven league wins came against defending league champion Carmel and runner-up Pacific Grove by a combined score of 40-10.
The Cougars might be the best hitting team in the tournament, as a fourth of their 200 hits have gone for extra bases this year.
Four players are hitting over .400 for the Cougars, including Jessica Clements, who is hitting .568. Iowa State bound Abby Gunter sits at .484, while Kate Fraley has driven in a team high 30 runs.
Learning from Santa Catalina's all-time winningest pitcher in head coach Alex Pingree, Emma James is 17-1 with a 1.96 earned run average.
South San Francisco won the Peninsula Ocean Division with a 14-1 record. Yet, outside league play, it was just 2-8.
Karizma Bergesen did hit .611 this spring for the Warriors. Freshman hurler Hailey Meisenbach was 13-1, and hit .393 at the plate.
