Friday's game
King City (1-2) vs. Marina (2-1) at Seaside, 7:30 p.m.
Coming off their single-game school record 57 point eruption, the Mariners have the distinction of having scored the second most points in a game this year in Monterey County.
While the home venue for Marina switches this week from the fast synthetic turf at MPC to the sand pit at Seaside, this is not a bad thing.
King City has never won a game at Seaside.
Of course, Marina has never beaten the Mustangs, having been outscored 239-13 in five games.
While King City has had two weeks to stew over a loss to Gustine -- in which it blew a 13-point lead in a 34-13 loss -- the Mariners have rattled off two straight wins behind EJ Jennings.
The slot back is coming off a 170 yard, two touchdown effort last week while Jose Yarzaba rushed for two touchdowns.
It's no secret the Mustangs will target tight end Jarod Davis, who has 13 catches for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns.
Ivan Garcia has filled in well at running back for King City with 158 yards in two games, taking some of the pressure of QB Jacob Flores, who has accounted for five of the teams seven scores.
