Since snapping a 17-game losing streak that dated back to 2011, the Spartans are 5-2.
As a result, Gonzales has clinched its first .500 or better season in 11 years.
During that span, the Spartans won a total of 12 games while suffering 75 losses.
At one point, the programs roster shrunk to under 20 players. Talk even surfaced about shutting one of the oldest football programs in the county down.
Now talk is about taking the next step.
The seniors on this year's squad talked about an attitude adjustment, setting an example before the year started, laying a foundation for the future.
Mission accomplished.
While I'm not going to anoint the Spartans as a team to beat in the MTAL next year, it's clear that the pride in the program is back.
