Central Coast Section Playoffs
Division IV
Friday's game
No. 5 Monterey (7-3) vs. No. 4 Menlo (6-4) at Sequoia High, Redwood City 7:30 p.m.
The Knights are a different team without quarterback Jack Heneghan, who has missed the last two games with a concussion.
As a result, Menlo has dropped two straight games.
Heneghan has thrown for 2,974 yards and 37 touchdowns this fall. His status for Friday's game is uncertain.
The Knights mustered just a field goal in last week's 10-3 loss to Division IV top seed Sacred Heart Prep.
Monterey coach Tom Newton has cautioned his players not to overlook the backup quarterback.
Having forced 22 turnovers during a five-game winning streak, Monterey turned the ball over four times last week in a loss to unbeaten Alvarez.
While the Toreadores offense has been more pass friendly, time consuming drives are critical, no matter who is behind center for Menlo.
That means a heavy dose of Akili Jones and Jason Berring.
