Division I
Friday's game
No. 6 Salinas (5-5) at No. 3 Piedmont Hills, San Jose (7-3), 7 p.m.
The only county teams to have made more consecutive playoff appearances than Salinas have been Palma and Carmel.
The Cowboys are no strangers to Piedmont Hills, having faced them in their 2012 season opener at The Pit, posting a 59-34 win.
Of course, that was last year and this fall the game is on the road, where the Pirates are 4-1 at home this year.
Maybe that's just as well for Salinas, which is 4-1 on the road.
Last week the Cowboys snapped a three-game losing streak with a season-high 36 point eruption.
Salinas doesn't need film to remember Piedmont Hills quarterback Anthony McBride, who tossed five touchdown passes against them last year.
McBride has thrown for 2,028 yards and 33 touchdowns this fall. McBride also leads the Pirates in rushing touchdowns with six.
His favorite target has been Joseph Romero, who has 15 touchdown catches on 42 receptions for nearly 800 yards.
Look for Salinas to attempt to keep McBride on the bench with time consuming drives behind the running of Jordan Torres and Elijah Kirkland.
