No rhyme or reason. So let's go
Tonight's games
Carmel vs. St. Francis Catholic at Cabrillo College, 8 p.m.: The Padres come into the battle with a 12-game winning streak. Golden Anderson has never lost a game as a head coach. St Francis was the only team that the Padres didn't score 40 or more points against last year. Pick: Carmel.
Watsonville at Alvarez, 7:30 p.m.: The loss of tailback David Perez to an eligibility issue hurts. Still, this is an Eagles squad that has expectations and hope. Watsonville is the defending MBL co-champions. The Eagles have won their last two season openers. Pick: Alvarez.
Washington, Fresno at Alisal, 7:30 p.m.: No one is talking about the Trojans, who unified with mohawks. Alisal has dropped its last two season openers. Pick: Alisal.
Saturday's games
Jefferson at North Salinas, 2 p.m.: A rare home game on campus, the Vikings will be more balanced this year. North Salinas has never lost a game on their turf field. Pick: North Salinas.
North County at Silver Creek, 1:30 p.m.: The Condors looked impressive and physical in a scrimmage with Carmel last week. Silver Creek is quick. Pick: North County.
