Salinas football

I will admit, it's unique.
Corralled behind a cattle gate, Salinas comes stampeding out of the tunnel when the gate opens.
Still, I didn't feel the energy that the Cowboys normally demonstrate before a game.
And it clearly showed when they spotted Atascadero 21 points in the first quarter of a 35-7 loss.
Being humbled in its season opener is nothing new for Salinas, which has dropped three straight season openers by a combined score of 122-33.
Granted, these aren't creampuffs the Cowboys have played the last three years. And I did see reason to believe things will be better down the road.
But when five of your first six opponents reached the playoffs last year, you can't afford to come out flat.
