While Xavier Nady's future with the Yankees remains in limbo as spring training nears, he did receive a raise today, avoiding salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year $6.55 million dollar deal.
With a surplus of outfielders, the Yankees have actively shopped the former Salinas High slugger. His new deal still makes him the lowest paid starter in the Yankees lineup.
The right fielder was a good fit in the Yankees star-studded lineup last season, putting up career numbers between Pittsburgh and New York, hitting .305 with 25 homers and 95 runs batted in.
With so many big names in the lineup, Nady is one less distraction that puts up numbers. Why the Yankees would even consider parting with him explains their disfunction and demand for big names and big disappointments.
