Hiring former 49ers fullback Tom Rathman as the teams running backs coach is another step in the right direction for a 49er franchise trying to get its identity back.
Rathman is a link to the past with a couple of Super Bowl rings. This is what the 49ers have been missing the last four years — faces familiar with the organization and its illustrious history.
Rathman is a blue collar, no non-sense man. He brings stability to the coaching staff. Perhaps he will even bring the fullback back into the offensive game plan. He will fit in perfectly with head coach Mike Singletary's plans.
