Adding an event to track and field

A representative from the Mission Trail Athletic League will make a presentation on Monday to the Central Coast Section about bringing the javelin to high school track.
The event is not a part of high school track in California, but is for other prep state championships meets in the United States. This is just the first step and is at least a year away being passed.
But the new rubber tips at the end for high school javelins make the event a little safer.
It's long over due.
The javelin is no less dangerous in a meet than the discus. Of course, coaches could struggle to find someone to teach the event, which is extremely technical and different from any other event in track and field.

Interesting. How will all the new "turf" fields in the area affect the ability to have a javelin competition? Probably wouldn't be held in the infield of a track during a high school meet anyway.

Good point.
Perhaps the rubber tips will keep it from sticking. Most likely, it would be held outside the track, if for no other reason than spectators need to be educated on the event as well.
