state champion

When you think of all the talented distance runners who have come out of Palma --- John Sup, Jim Scattini and Ryan Angle to name a few -- put Tyre Johnson in the same class.
The senior achieved a feat no one else at Palma has ever done -- winning a state title in cross country Saturday, capturing the Division IV finals in 15:32.00.
Johnson becomes just the second athlete from Monterey County to win a state title in cross country, joining Dylan Fitzpatrick of Carmel, who won the crown in 2004.

Sup and Angle? Those guys are lame! Scattini, on the other hand, was not only a gifted runner, but extremely handsome.
But seriously, congratulations to Tyre and all the other local qualifiers for making us very proud. Good luck in Western Regionals.
John, please be sure to give kudos to Diego who placed 76th overall (.3 second behind 800 meter Olympian Andrew Wheating of Oregon)and was the 6th fastest freshman in the NCAA championships last Monday. He was the 4th man on the Northern Arizona team, which placed 6th in the team competition, ahead of traditional powers such as BYU, Georgetown and Colorado. http://www.gosycamores.com/pdf5/353577.pdf?ATCLID=3622343&SPSID=65221&SPID=7268&DB_OEM_ID=15200

Just as an FYI, Rachel Lewis did win a title in '88 (DIII-which was the smallest at that time). Later that spring, she placed 2nd in the State 3,200, beating Deena Drossin (Kastor).

Handsome?
I'll say this, Jim still looks like he's in high school.
