For as big of a win as it was for King City last week in knocking off unbeaten Santa Catalina, a meeting with Carmel next Tuesday will be even bigger.
While Carmel is a lock to reach the playoffs, even as a third seed out of the Mission Trail Athletic League, King City is not.
The Mustangs — owners of 25 straight postseason appearances — will have to finish in the top two in the MTAL to ensure a playoff berth, if you believe the point gods that have kindly shared their insight.
Barring any stunning upsets Thursday, the two teams will meet in King City for sole possession of second place. It might be noted that the Mustangs are unbeaten in league play at home.
Carmel did win the first meeting.
