Is there a stronger league in the Central Coast Section than the Tri-County Athletic League?
Well, there have been 17 CCS Divisional softball titles won in the last decade by teams in the TCAL.
Enough said.
Before the spring is up, two more could be forthcoming.
For now, lets focus on the TCAL itself.
1. San Benito: I know dropping three straight in a tournament in Arizona created a few question marks. But my hunch is it'll make them mentally stronger.
2. Salinas: Didn't exactly come off like a team contending for a title. But with seven starters and pitcher Sammy Rodriguez, you can't ignore the talent.
3. Notre Dame: When was the last time Notre Dame wasn't a preseason favorite? Oh, 10 years ago. Ironically this might be the programs most athletic team.
4. Gilroy: An 11-2 preseason sure creates a lot of hype, particularly when the two losses were to Presentation. Yet, the three teams in front of them are as good as anyone they'll face.
5. North Salinas: Two years removed from its last playoff spot, North Salinas might be the most improved team in the league. Five teams could make the playoffs.
6. Alvarez: The move to the TCAL has not been kind for the Eagles, who won the Monterey Bay League title in their final season in 2006.
7. Alisal: Hard to believe it's been 20 years since Alisal reached the playoffs.
