Quite an auspicious season debut for Xavier Nady, who was 4-for-7 with two home runs in the Pirates 12-11 win over Atlanta.
This is not the first time the Salinas High graduate has ripped two home runs in a season opener. Nady accomplished the feat three years ago in the snow at Coors Field in Denver while playing for San Diego.
The subject of trade talks in the off-season, the Pirates right fielder is coming off a career year in which he ripped 20 homers and drove in 72 runs.
Should Pittsburgh fall out of contention by the all-star break, look for Nady to be traded to a contender before August.
But if Nady has a monster year, the Pirates would be wise to build around a player that is 27 years old and just hitting his stride.
