Salinas-Carmel volleyball

Tuesday's match
Salinas (2-3) at Carmel (1-2), 6:30 p.m.
Bumpy starts in the preseason, these are two programs expected to contend for supremacy this fall in the Gabilan Division -- in Salinas' case, maybe for years to come.
The defending champion Cowboys have just one senior on their roster, as freshman Quinn Atteridge leads the team in kills, with sophomore Brooke Cannon igniting the defense in the back row.
In addition, setter Sopia Berg and 6-foot-3 middle blocker Alanah Gordon are sophomores, while 6-1 Brooke Hibino is a freshman outside hitter.
Experience is what Carmel is relying on this season, starting with setter Emma Crabbe, and hitters Karoline Ruiz and Megan Langley -- all seniors.
A common opponent in the preseason for both teams was Harbor, who defeated beat Salinas in five sets and Carmel in four sets.
These programs faced each other four times last year - including two tournament matches - with the Cowboys winning all four.
