Greenfield-King City football

Friday's game
Greenfield (0-1) at King City (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
It's hard to get a guage on how impressive the Mustangs 35-0 season opening win was, considering St. Francis finished the game with 12 players.
Once again the injury bug is hitting King City, who lost tailback Alex Valdez in the first quarter. In this case, the injury also meant the loss of a starter on defense.
Jonah Mendez was sharp behind center, throwing for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 72-yard scoring strike to Devin Morales to open the game for the Mustangs.
Mendez also gave the ground game a lift with a touchdown run, while Felix Dominguez and Cesar Chavez made the most of their opportunities, combining for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
The good news for the Bruins is they did not have to wait until the fourth quarter of their third game to produce their first points of the season.
Unfortunately, there are some holes in the defense to shore up after giving up 56 points, the second most in the last decade in a loss last week to Soledad.
King City has won the last eight meetings between the two south county rivals, including last year's 34-0 win. The Bruins last win over their rivals came in King City.
