Salinas-Gilroy football

Friday's game
Salinas (5-2) at Gilroy (1-6), 7:30 p.m.
What's been impressive about the Cowboys five-game winning streak is the defense has allowed one touchdown in the second half, keeping three teams out of the end zone.
The offense, behind quarterback Carl Richardson, hasn't been bad of late either, averaging 45 points a game in their last three games.
Richardson has tossed 11 touchdowns in four Gabilan Division games, while rushing for one as well, throwing for nearly 1,200 yards.
Five receivers have touchdown catches, including Ivan Curiel, who has 34 catches, sharing the team lead for touchdown receptions with Poe Gaskins.
That stingy defense has seen Nathan Martorella record nine sacks and a pick six while Nick Marquez is on pace for over 100 tackles. As a team, the Salinas defense has produced 15 turnovers.
Gilroy, who was 13-0 last year, hasn't scored in its last eight quarters and has been shutout four times this fall. It has been outscored 84-2 in the second quarter.
Why the Mustangs were forced into the Gabilan Division this year is a mystery. Hopefully it doesn't cripple the future of the program.
