Marina-Pajaro Valley football

Saturday's game
Marina (3-5) vs. Pajaro Valley (3-5) at Cabrillo College, 7:30 p.m.
The Mariners are one of three programs in the tri-region area to have posted three shutouts this year -- three more than their first 76 games of existence.
However, Marina is winless when the defense doesn't pitch a shutout, having allowed 194 points in five losses.
The good news is the Mariners have some momentum, having halted a five-game losing streak. The concern is they mustered just 13 points against the worst defense in the Santa Lucia Division.
Pajaro Valley comes into the battle averaging 30 points a game in league play behind running backs Carlos Hernandez and Russel Pablo.
The Grizzlies have been prone to give up points, having allowed 34 or more five times this season - a bulk of it coming in the third quarter, where they've allowed 70 points.
Michael Barrera has either thrown or rushed for 13 touchdowns this year for Marina, while Ernesto Guevara has already broken the single-season school record for receptions.
