Friday's game
Gilroy (1-7) at Seaside (0-8), 7:30 p.m.
Less than a year removed from a 13-0 season and a Central Coast Section Division V title, Gilroy has scored just 44 points all year.
Last year the Mustangs scored more than that in three separate games. But this is what happens when programs don't have the numbers to compete in the Gabilan Division.
Seaside was also a playoff team last fall. And while it was competitive in the Gabilan Division, it no longer has the personnel or bodies to compete on a weekly basis in the league.
Both programs have struggled offensively. The Spartans have gotten into the end zone once all year in the first quarter -- in the season opener. Gilroy has been outscored 128-2 in the second quarter.
The Mustangs have been shutout five times this year, and have gone 12 consecutive quarters without producing a point, having scored just 18 points in league play.
Perhaps an omen to the Spartans season occurred before it ever began when new sod was late in being laid down. As result, this is just their second home game on campus this year.

Gilroy doesn't have the numbers to compete in the Gabilan??? 1,663 students at Gilroy High. Making Gilroy the 8th largest school in our area. Aptos has nearly 200 fewer students and they lead the Gabilan.
