Pacific Grove-Santa Cruz football

Friday's game
Pacific Grove (3-5) at Santa Cruz (2-6), 7:30 p.m.
The last time these two teams faced each other was in the 2007 Central Coast Section Small School finals, with Santa Cruz scoring with 3:49 left to post a 21-14 win.
For the second time in three weeks, the Breakers erupted for 27 points in the first three quarters, but were outscored a combined 42-0 by both opponents in the fourth quarter.
In both those games, Pacific Grove was within two points before faltering in the final 12 minutes. In between the two battles was arguably its best defensive effort in a 14-7 loss to Monterey.
Finding that ability to finish games comes with maturation and health. Injuries have cut into Pacific Grove's depth of late.
Quarterback FreddyAlbert is coming off a four-touchdown effort for the Breakers, with three going to Ben Minik. The four scoring tosses equaled his entire season total.
Sandwiched in between a pair of three-game losing streaks for Santa Cruz has been a pair of wins, including last week's 14-12 upset of St. Francis.
A league champion last season, the Cardinals have struggled offensively, with quarterback Dillon Danner having tossed 12 touchdown passes, seven to Henry Champion.
