Seaside (0-4) at Aptos (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
It started with its field not being ready for use after sod was brought in late. Injuries have followed suit, along with the Spartans worst start since 2014.
A ravaged offensive line will get some help this week when 305-pound junior Kefu Leander makes his debut.
Leander might make a bigger impact on defense, where the Spartans have not been able to stop the run, allowing 379 yards in a loss last week to Christopher.
The Mariners have only attempted 23 passes this year, having rushed for nearly 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns in a 4-0 start.
Marcos Reyes, last year's co Gabilan Division Offensive Player of the Year, has rushed for over 100 yards three times this fall, scoring nine touchdowns, giving him 25 in two years.
Three players are on pace for over 600 rushing yards, including quarterback Hunter Matys, who has also been efficient behind center, as a fifth of his completions have gone for touchdowns.
Getting tailback Elijah Robinson some room to run for Seaside would be a good starting point. The senior has a burst in the open field.
The Spartans have yet to put two halves together this year. Two weeks ago it was outscored 21-0 in the second half by Alisal after being tied at halftime.
Last week Seaside spotted Christopher 21 points in the first half before the offense found the end zone. Dating back to 2013, Aptos has won the last three meetings between the teams.
