St. Francis-King City football

Friday's game
St. Francis, Watsonville (3-1) at King City (2-2), 7:30 p.m.
It appears the Mustangs have discovered a hidden gem in Alex Valdez, who wasn't even on the depth chart among tailbacks.
Injuries left King City with few options, other than to move a player out of position. Valdez's move won't be temporary after he rushed for 211 yards and four touchdowns last week.
His performance was uplifting for the Mustangs, who have been riddled with injuries, forcing head coach Mac Villanueva to alter the playbook last week.
The ability to run the ball also kept King City's defense rested. The result was a performance similar to its season opener, allowing just one touchdown.
It's no secret what St. Francis is going to do and that's run the ball, as five different players have 150 or more rushing yards this fall.
Quarterback Joseph Ramirez has nearly as many rushing touchdowns (6) as he has passes attempted (7) in four games. However, three of his four completions have gone for touchdowns.
In losses to Carmel and Christopher - two teams a combined 7-1 - the Mustangs defense gave up 592 yards on the ground.
The Sharks, who played an independent schedule for three years before joining the old Mission Trail Athletic League last year, are coming off an 8-2 season.
