Pajaro Valley-Gonzales football

Friday's game
Pajaro Valley (1-3) at Gonzales (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
Since starting last season with six consecutive losses, the Spartans have gone 7-1, posting their first 4-0 start this fall since 2003 -- the last time they reached the postseason.
A defense, anchored by Pablo Villasenor and Nael Vasquez's four interceptions, has allowed just two touchdowns in the last 10 quarters.
As a unit Gonzales has created 14 turnovers this year, not to mention two safeties and a pick six from Vasquez.
On the heels of a confidence building win over Lynbrook two weeks ago, the Grizzlies have had an extra week to prepare for the unbeaten Spartans.
After giving up 138 points in three straight losses, Pajaro Valley allowed just six, while producing 41 points -- more than it had scored in its previous three games.
Not only is tailback Payton Flores on a pace to shatter the Gonzales single-season rushing record, but his numbers project him to rush for over 2,100 yards.
The senior is averaging over 200 yards a game, having rushed for 848 yards and nine touchdowns in four games. He also has 72 receiving yards and has tossed two touchdown passes on two attempts.
Raul Morales has been sharp behind center this fall for the Spartans, with his completion percentage up nearly 20 percent from last year, throwing for 415 yards, while rushing for 130 yards.
Franky Cisneros caught two touchdown passes last week while Dominic Emery has 14 catches for 298 yards and four touchdowns.
