Carmel-King City volleyball

The two long-time rivals and perennial playoff programs get reacquainted tonight in a new division, unsure of what lies ahead.
What won't change is the rivalry, always intense and competitive, as evident by the Padres and King City having split their last six matches.
The Mustangs, who have not had a losing season in 37 years, make it no secret that the ball is headed into the hands of outside hitter Grace Shepherd.
Last fall the Mission Trail Athletic League co Player of the Year finished with over 400 kills, taking King City into the Central Coast Section Division IV semifinals.
As hard as Shepherd hits, the Padres Soana Laulotu may hit it even harder as the two-time all-county volleyball standout is an intimidating force at the net, having compiled 100 kills this fall.
Laulotu, who also leads Carmel in digs, has fed off of sets from Emma Crabbe, while King City has run a two-set attack with Kayla Silva and Ivy Hearne.
This match will come down to defense where Nancy Andrade has been a rock in the back row for the Mustangs while Carmel's Karoline Ruiz has been a disruptive force at the net.
