Gonzales-Morro Bay football

Friday's game
Gonzales (0-0) at Morro Bay (0-1), 7 p.m.
The Pirates have not faced a team from Monterey County since beating Greenfield 52-0 in 2004. On the heels of a 2-8 season, they were upended 21-14 last week by Mission Prep.
Gonzales is 1-8 in its last nine season openers. It did close last season winning three of its final four games. It also lead in eight of its 10 games last year.
Raul Morales and his nearly 1,300 passing yards and 14 touchdowns are back, along with his two top targets in Dominic Emery and Payton Flores.
Morales was sharp in the South County Jamboree last week, rushing for a touchdown. Flores will get his share of carries this fall for the Spartans, running behind a line that includes Pablo Villasenor.
The third quarter was a thorn in the Spartans side last season, producing just 20 points, while being outscored by 54.
Morro Bay gave up 379 points last year. It does return quarterback Aiden Moriarty. Both of its wins last year came at home.
Tabbed the team to beat in the Pacific Coast Athletic League's Santa Lucia Division, Gonzales has not been to the postseason since 2003.
