Saturday morning thoughts

Statement: Since an opening season loss, Alvarez is averaging 79 points a game during a four game winning streak, erupting for a 77-49 win over North Salinas in a battle of Pacific Division leaders.
Shocker: Looking for a creditable win, Soledad got one, using a free throw from Beth Tinajero to post a 49-48 win over Pacific Grove.
Sharpshooters: Stevenson buried 18 3-point goals, six apiece from Patrick Donohue and Winston Elstob to move into a three-way tie for first in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
Nailbitters: After dropping a one-point overtime loss to state ranked Gavilan, MPC rebounds with a one-point win Friday over West Valley in men's hoops.
Streaks: Pacific Grove has its run of eight straight wins in boys hoops end. Stevenson and Seaside have won five straight in girls hoops. Soledad has rattled off five straight in boys soccer. Alisal has won five consecutive games in girls soccer.
Notable marks: Ambreece Gaskins drops in 32 points for Stevenson, Vada Courtney scores 27 for Pacific Grove. Billy Hollman has 26 points for Soledad. Matthew Briscoe has 25 for Seaside. Evans Charles of Monterey and Patrick Donohue of Stevenson both have 20.
