Salinas-Carmel boys hoops

We don't know a lot about Salinas because it's a new cast. We're starting to get to know Carmel and its freshman JT Byrne
The 6-foot-4 Byrne is part of a youth movement that is getting an expanded role for Carmel, whose lineup also includes sophomore Kai Lee.
Byrne is averaging 19 points and nearly 10 rebounds a game for the Padres, who are pairing him up in the paint with 6-foot-5 senior Kevin Cook, his is dropping in 16 points a night.
Add Lee's 14 points each night and the Padres (5-2) are a threat in the Mission Trail Athletic League to Pacific Grove's rein.
Salinas won two of three at the Scattini Tournament, knocking off Shasta, who was 6-0 coming into the tournament, and Soquel, who was 5-1.
The three-point win over Soquel for the Cowboys (4-4) avenged a 14-point loss to them on Dec. 7.
Brothers Isaiah and David Orozco have carried the offense for Salinas along with Jarrett Edria and Caden Batista.
Last year Salinas beat Carmel by 10 in their non-league battle.
