Returning for a third tour of duty as the Palma baseball coach tells you how much Phil Giammanco cares about the program.
This isn't about proving anything for Giammanco, who coached the team between 2001-2005 and 2009-2014.
He has won 186 games at Palma, guided them to a Gabilan Division title in 2013 and a Central Coast Section title in 2009.
Instead, this is about a Palma alum that cares about the baseball program - a program he helped build when he first came aboard 18 years ago.
Giammanco is on campus -- a plus for any head coach in any sport. He knows the kids, has talked to them about the direction the program needs to take.
Perhaps more important is this time coaching will not take valuable time away from his own family. His kids are older, playing the game he loves.
For the carousel of coaches that have popped in and out in between his departures, Giammanco has provided stability.
