Saturday's game
West Hills (3-2) at MPC (4-2), 6 p.m.
The Falcons have either won or shared the title since becoming a member of the American Golden Coast Conference, having gone 16-2 in conference play in three seasons.
West Hills is coming off its biggest win of the year, knocking Foothill from the unbeaten ranks with a 28-14 decision. It is 1-2 this year in games decided by six points or less.
One of the Lobos two setbacks this season was a 10-point loss to Foothill. MPC has rattled off four straight wins since that setback.
Part of the resurgence starts with rediscovering its ground game, which averaged 1.2 yards in those two losses. During its four-game winning streak, MPC is averaging just under five yards a crack.
San Benito High graduate Hunter Nye has rushed for a team high 521 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards each time he touches the ball.
Yet, the continued emergence of quarterback Hunter Raquet has been the biggest development as the freshman had thrown for 1,170 yards and nine touchdowns.
Raquet has given MPC a dimension it hasn't seen at quarterback, as evident by him rushing for over 100 yards last week.
In addition to having a connection with Nye on screens, Raquet has built chemistry with a receiving core that includes Michael Armstead and his team leading four touchdown catches.
Armstead is averaging 17.1 yards a catch while Isaiah Kearney is averaging a team high 17.8 yards a reception. Matteo De'Alfonso sits at 16.2 yards a catch.
The Falcons do get after the quarterback with 19 sacks, seven from Erick Powell. They have turned the ball over 17 times in five games on offense and are minus four in turnover ratio.
Derrek Meek and Anthny Saavedra have combined for 86 tackles and three turnovers this season for MPC while Trinity graduate Dylan Beechum has four sacks.
