North Salinas football

It wouldn't be a stretch to suggest that Friday's road win over Mountain View was the biggest win in the Darren Spence era at North Salinas.
Sure, beating Santa Clara in the playoffs two years ago was significant, since Spence had spent time there as a coach.
Yet, in terms of importance, going on the road and knocking off a playoff team from the year before, a program that opened the season with a 35-7 win -- was a big deal for the Vikings.
 How big?
Well, it's just the second time in three years that North Salinas has beaten a team that had a winning record.
Mountain View came into the game having rushed for five touchdowns the week before. It managed one against the Vikings defense until the final 1:34 of the game.
And North Salinas was trailing in this game before it produced two second half touchdowns, the last coming on a 34-yard touchdown run from Tim Hunter with three minutes left to secure the win.
Nothing is going to come easy for the Vikings being in the Gabilan. But in terms of confidence, this was a shot in the arm.
