Gonzales football

Perhaps we expected too much from one coach.
After all we witnessed first hand what Gonzales first year coach Art Berlanga accomplished with his brother Frankie in resurrecting the Soledad program six years ago together.
All situations are different. And Gonzales is a program in transition. It hasn't sniffed the postseason in 14 years.
And right now it has dropped 14 of its last 15 games dating back to 2015.
 Alumni, be patient.
The Spartans are going in the right direction. There's energy, a different vibe, a trust factor.
Granted opening the season with Fremont of Oakland and Coalinga threw the Spartans right into the fire -- outscored 110-21.
I believe we witnessed the potential Gonzales has in a 13-6 setback Friday to Pacific Grove. In its realm, this program can be competitive.
And it will be in the Mission Trail Athletic League's Coastal Division.
This is still a group of kids learning on the fly. We've seen the fight in them, having actually lead in all three games.
Depth crippled the Spartans in their first two games. Experience in tight games is something they do not have yet. Or the taste of winning. It's a barrier. Trust the process.
