Foothill-MPC football

Saturday's games
Foothill (1-0) at MPC (0-1),  6 p.m.
For a program that closed last season with five straight losses, and dropped every game at home for the second straight year, the Owls put it all in the rear view mirror last week.
Foothill allowed a late fourth quarter field goal in a 7-3 win over Hartnell in last week's opener, the first time since 2010 that it held an opponent without a touchdown.
The Owls were balanced offensively as quarterback Steven Mueller threw for 174 yards and tailback Derje Blanke chalked up 101 yards and the games only touchdown.
Freshman quarterback Hunter Raquet came off the bench for MPC and threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for a touchdown, with Isaiah Kearney catching five passes for 86 yards.
What crippled the Lobos was the lack of a ground game -- minus one yard rushing -- four turnovers, and a two touchdown halftime deficit.
More touches could be in store for Akili Jones, who rushed for 21 yards on six carries, and returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown.
Derrek Meek was a beast on defense for MPC with 14 tackles and a interception. Dalton Lykins had 11 tackles and Paul Williams 10.
Minus the one loss the Lobos absorbed last season, Foothill gave them their biggest challenge in a 16-6 win.
