Fremont-Gonzales football

Friday's game
Fremont, Oakland (0-0) at Gonzales (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Despite dropping four of their last five games, the Oakland-based Tigers are coming off a postseason appearance, having produced 308 points in 11 games.
Fremont scored 45 or more points four times, including 80 in one game. Two of its losses came from McClymonds, who went 13-1 and won a state bowl game.
After nearly missing the playoffs in 2015, Gonzales was just 1-9 last fall, missing the postseason for the 13th straight year.
Spartans first year coach Art Berlanga is no stranger to rapid turnarounds, helping his brother take Soledad to its first postseason appearance in their first season as coaches six years ago.
Look for a different tempo offensively for Gonzales as it will look to establish a ground game to go along with a passing attack that was impressive in last week's South County Jamboree.
Payton Jordan lead the Spartans in receptions last season while Damian Acosta is one of the fastest players in the county.
