Central Coast Section Division I Playoffs
Saturday's game
No. 13 Milpitas (14-13) vs. No. 5 Alisal (17-11) at 2 p.m. at Hartnell College.
Don't be mislead by Milpitas' won-loss record. It plays in the De Anza Athletic League, a division that saw two other programs end the seasons of two county teams on Wednesday.
Make it three if you count Milpitas -- also nicknamed the Trojans -- who defeated Alvarez 2-0 in its playoff opener Wednesday.
Alisal has been on arguably the greatest run in the programs 50 plus year history, having won five straight - three in extra innings, including Wednesday's 2-1 decision over Aptos.
Pitching has carried Alisal throughout the season and it lived up to its billing in its postseason opener with Raul Garnica coming in and getting a huge strikeout in the eighth inning to end the threat.
Garnica then ended the drama with a clutch, two-out single that scored JC Maravillo -- who pitched the first 7 2/3 innings.
Ruben Gomez will likely get the nod for the Pacific Division champions on Saturday. Sal Lopez or Garnica will also be available.
Milpitas hit just .232 as a team this season. Jason Haug did swing a hot stick at .387, and hit both of the teams home runs.
Pitching has also been Milpitas' strength as it has a team earned run average of 2.37.
