Carlmont-Monterey boys soccer

Wednesday's game
Central Coast Section Open Division semifinals
No. 4 Carlmont (15-4-2) vs. No. 8 Monterey (15-1-2) at Valley Christian, San Jose, 7 p.m.
No one expected the Toreadores to be suiting up tonight -- accept for the 17 players that make up the roster.
Not only did Monterey knock off the top seed in Alisal on the road, but it beat a team ranked in the top 20 in the state at the time for the first time in school history.
The Toreadores are looking to add to what has already been an historic season in which they won the programs first Pacific Division title and have tied the school record for wins.
Unbeaten in its last 13 games, Monterey is anchored by Pacific Division co-Most Valuable Player Louis Sanchez, who produced two goals and an assist in the win over Alisal.
Sanchez, a four-year starter along with Jimmy Diego, leads the team in assists with 14 and shares the team lead in goals with Isaac Lomeli with 10.
Co champions of the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division, Carlmont is led by Leo McBride, who has 12 goals, and Dro Avetian, who has 10 goals and six assists.
The Scots advanced to the semifinals with a penalty kick win over Homestead. In their 15 wins, they have outscored the opposition 41-11, and are unbeaten on neutral sites.
