The West Catholic Athletic League is a different animal.
If Monterey wasn't aware of that, it certainly took note Thursday, watching the Crusaders in person beat Capuchino by 34 points.
It won't hurt Riordan that Saturday's Central Coast Section Division III quarterfinal game is being played at St. Ignatius in San Francisco, just down the street from Riordan.
The Toreadores, who opened the season with 17 straight wins and are 21-3 overall, have had a week off -- but just 24 hours to prepare for Riordan.
Monterey hasn't won a Saturday quarterfinal game in 19 years. Riordan was 7-4 outside the WCAL this season.
While the 74 points the Crusaders scored in their playoff opening win was a season high, they have been prone to giving up points, having allowed 70 plus points eight times.
The Toreadores are a team that likes to get out and run in transition, as well as launch 3-point shots. Kobe Ordonio averaged nearly 18 points a game this year.
Four other players averaged nearly 10 points a game, with sophomore Mohammed Adam dropping in 12 points, while Tahjae Ordonio buried a team high 49 3-point goals.
A concern for the Toreadores should be Riordan's size, as it has four players that stand 6-4 or taller. Monterey doesn't have anyone over 6-3.
