Former Palma High lineman Jack Powers made the transition from offensive linemen to defensive end this fall for the University of Virginia.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Powers, who transferred to Virginia after playing his first two years at Arizona State, compiled 13 tackles in 12 games this past fall, recording a sack.
Powers, The Herald’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, also broke up three passes for the Cavaliers. The junior started two games against Virginia Tech and Richmond.
