Soledad football

 Humble but hungry.
Soledad wasn't on a lot of peoples radar to be playing for a Central Coast Section title 15 weeks ago when this all started.
Yet, an historical season -- one that includes a single-season school record for wins - has left them as one of just two teams in the county that will be practicing on Thanksgiving.
Granted, the Aztecs will be slightly out of their comfort zone next Saturday when they face top seed Westmont at Independence High in San Jose.
Soledad hasn't been away from home for five weeks, where it has rattled off five straight wins. And it hasn't played a Saturday game all season.
At this point, none of that matters. Two weeks ago we were talking about how the Aztecs had never won a postseason game.
Now they're a win away from the programs first section title. The same can be said for Westmont, who equaled its entire postseason win total in the last two weeks.
Soledad hadn't had a come-from-behind win in the second half all season. That changed on Friday when it produced two touchdowns to erase a one-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Still, what stood out is what has carried this team all season and that's the defense, which stopped a two-point conversation to preserve a 27-26 win over Gilroy.
A formula for success in the postseason is a defense that makes plays and a ground game that chews up the clock. The timing couldn't be better for Soledad.
