Palma football

We all knew this was coming the moment the brackets came out. Palma was headed to the finals of the CCS Open Division III playoffs and Valley Christian of San Jose would be awaiting.
Two teams with a history that goes back to their days of being small division powers in the 1990's -- are meeting in the section finals for the first time since 2005.
Having faced each other six times in the postseason, the Warriors have had the edge of late, winning the last four battles, including a 35-14 title clinching win in 2005.
Most recently, Valley Christian extended the Chieftains hardships against opponents from the West Catholic Athletic League with a 14-7 first round decision in 2014.
Yet, in what has been a lopsided postseason ride to the finals for both teams, the hype for this game appears to be legit.
Valley Christian (11-1) has outscored two teams 76-7 while Palma has laid 90 points on two teams behind Emilio Martinez, who has rushed for 603 yards and 11 touchdowns.
A common opponent for both teams is St. Francis, who used a late fourth quarter touchdown for an 8-7 win over Palma in Week 2, and defeated Valley Christian 13-10 in overtime.
Neither team has dropped a game since, as the Chieftains have rattled off 10 straight wins since an 0-2 start.
Having dropped six straight playoff games to teams in the WCAL, Palma knows the path to a CCS title runs through that league.
Yet, regardless of the outcome, it is beginning to look like both could earn a spot in the Northern California Division III playoffs. One way to ensure that, though, is to win the CCS title.
