Scotts Valley-Carmel football

Friday's game
Scotts Valley (0-1) vs. Carmel (1-0) at MPC, 7:30 p.m.
With the completion of the bleachers at Carmel not slated to be done until mid October, the Padres will play their first three home games at MPC.
Carmel has had mixed results playing games at MPC since Golden Anderson took the helm seven years ago, going 3-0 in the regular season, but 1-2 in the postseason.
Covossay Windham opened the fall with a 218 yard rushing effort on just 19 carries for the Padres, scoring four touchdown.
Yet, the two-time 1,000 yard rusher was somewhat overshadowed by the effort of Carmel's defense, which didn't allow a touchdown until the fourth when a mixture of starters and reserves were in.
Also lost in the defensive dominance was the performance of Daniel Higman, who completed 11-15 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 54 yards.
Scotts Valley, who reached the CCS Division V semifinals last year, found themselves staring at a 21-0 deficit in a season opening 24-14 loss to Los Altos.
The Padres defense can expect to get a heavy dose of Tanner Gilton, who rushed for 80 yards on 22 carries last week, scoring both touchdowns.
In fact, Gilton compiled nearly 50 percent of the Falcons offense, while touching the ball on 23 of the teams 46 plays.
Carmel beat Scotts Valley 32-24 last year and defeated them 54-26 in the 2013 CCS Division IV playoffs.
