Monterey football

Short term, it may seem bleak.
Outscored 98-22 in your first two games will rattle anyone's confidence, particularly coming off a 2-8 season.
That light at the end of the tunnel is a black hole right now for Monterey.
 Or is it?
While the varsity is struggling to find some cohesiveness, the lower levels appear to be turning a corner.
Some of that talent could move up by the time league play rolls around in a couple of weeks.
Beyond the mental mistakes, subtle things have hurt the Toreadores in their first two games, such as disciplinary issues.
Attitude adjustments are work in progress for second year head coach Dan Brown, as is chemistry on the field.
It does not help that all his coaches haven't been cleared by the district yet, meaning he hasn't had a full staff a month into the season.
Brown wants to change the culture.
Some would argue the culture was fine after 10 playoff appearances in 11 years prior to his arrival.
Different philosophies, different systems, different mindset.
 Be patient.
Long term, the health of this program is promising. Numbers are up at the lower levels. A system is in place. But you have to ride out the storm first.
