Milpitas-North Salinas football

Friday's game
Milpitas (2-0) vs. North Salinas (1-1) at Rabobank, 7:30 p.m.
Did the Trojans put their names in the hat as one of the elite teams in the Central Coast Section after stunning North Coast Section power Antioch 49-28 last week?
It certainly didn't hurt. Yet, I'm not so sure Milpitas wasn't already in the conversation after winning 10 games last year and playing in the Northern California Division I bowl game.
The Trojans are going to air it out behind quarterback Tyree Brady, who has thrown for nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns in two games. He's also rushed for two touchdowns.
Protecting Brady is a front wall that includes a pair of sophomores in 6-foot-7, 310 pounder Justin Scrempos and 6-8, 310 offensive lineman Tony Vunipola.
The fact that Milpitas agreed to play North Salinas, who fell 28-12 to Piedmont Hills last week, is a sign of respect for a program coming off a nine-win season.
But the Vikings may need to get into a shootout with Milpitas behind quarterback Tim Burkhardt, who scored both touchdowns last week, utilizing the speed of Justin Robante and Tim Hunter.
Defensively, the Trojans get after it with eight sacks and seven turnovers in two games. Last fall they scored 40 or more points eight times.
