Saturday's game
Pajaro Valley (0-1) at Stevenson (0-0), 2 p.m.
While the Grizzlies continue to grind in hopes of turning their program around, Stevenson is looking to build off last season's two heartbreaking losses.
Erase a two point and one-point loss in the final minute of both games and the Pirates would've been a playoff team last fall.
The core of that group is back, including record setting quarterback Casey Mornhinweg and receiver Will Lansbury, who caught 45 passes -- nine for touchdowns last year.
No question the workhorse for Pajaro is Omar Murillo, who rushed for 184 yards on 28 carries in a loss to St. Francis Catholic last week.
Rediscovering that first quarter magic is critical for the Grizzlies, who scored the games first points last week before being outscored 34-0 -- 27-0 after the first quarter.
Stevenson is putting in a new defensive scheme this season. Last year's defense allowed 37 points in four wins, 151 points in five losses.
Pajaro Valley is 6-2 against teams from the Mission Trail Athletic League over the last four years. It has never faced Stevenson.
