Monterey-Hillsdale baseball

Central Coast Section Division II
Saturday's game
No. 5 Hillsdale (17-11) vs. No. 13 Monterey (13-14) at Washington Park, Santa Clara, 1 p.m.
No team was limping into the playoffs more than the Toreadores, who closed the Gabilan Division season with six straight losses.
No one had a more stunning first round win in Division II than Monterey, who knocked off reigning champion Sacred Heart Prep 3-2 on Wednesday.
Now comes Hillsdale -- 11-5 winners over Soledad -- who finished a game behind Sacred Heart Prep in the Peninsula Bay Division.
The Fighting Knights have struggled on the road this year at 3-7. Monterey has had some big wins at Washington Park over the years.
With ace Ryan Moreno having pitched the Toreadores into the quarterfinals, a pitching by committee approach may be in order Saturday.
Half of Arizona State bound shortstop Carter Aldrete's hits this year have gone for extra bases. The four-year starter leads Monterey in every offensive category.
Cole Morrison and Nick Stornetta both came up with clutch run scoring singles against Sacred Heart with Stornetta adding a sacrifice fly.
