You can make the argument that the Toreadores are coming off their best game of the season last Tuesday in snapping a three-game road losing streak with a win at Monte Vista.
Now, can Monterey duplicate the feat at home today and keep its Gabilan Division title hopes alive?
The Toreadores have looked more like the team people anticipated when the season started, having won three of their last four games, beating league leaders Palma and Monte Vista.
What Monterey hasn't done all season is sweep an opponent. It has split its two games with the first five league opponents it has faced in the Gabilan.
Matthew Wright has become a factor in the middle of the Toreadores lineup with a pair of homers while Carter Aldrete and Ryan Moreno continue to get on base.
Jordan Crisp and Aldrete have pitched well out of the bullpen while Moreno has been the ace of the staff, limiting Monte Vista to two runs in five innings of work.
There have been games this season when Monterey has used six different pitchers in games that Moreno has not started.
Two names in the Mustangs lineup to be aware off include Dylan McPhillips, who leads the team in hits, and power hitting Collins Jackson.
