Who had King City as a title contender?
You're lying.
Granted, we're just one game into the Mission Trail Athletic League season.
But the Mustangs season opening win over Soledad was a confidence builder for a program with one league title in 40 years.
Owners of three straight wins and five of its last six, the next task is a bit more challenging for King City, as it hosts defending MTAL champion Pacific Grove tonight.
The Mustangs have dropped 25 straight games to Pacific Grove, with their last win coming in 2002, the last time they won a league title.
What makes King City dangerous is it creates matchup problems with its physicality and size in the paint, anchored by 6-foot-4, 235-pound post Jared Davis.
There's quickness on the wings with guard Jovany Garcia being an underrated playmaker.
The Breakers have the reigning MTAL Player of the Year in guard Brad Sendell, and two players in the paint averaging eight plus points a game in Chip Wagner and Zack Miller.
Ironically King City has struggled at home this year at 1-3. But if it wants to make a presence in the MTAL title chase this season, it has to protect its house.
