Shimabukuro earns track scholarship

Rachel Shimabukuro has committed to Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado, where she will compete this spring in track and field.
 The distance ace helped the Hartnell College women's program to back-to-back conference titles in track and cross country.
 Shimabukuro, who prepped at San Benito High, earned Community College All-American honors this past fall in cross country for the state's No. 2 ranked team.
 Shimabukuro has the third fastest time in Hartnell school history in cross country at Toro Park and the second best time at Woodward Park in Fresno.
 A Coast Conference steeplechase champion last spring, Shimabukuro earned All-American honors in the event at last year's state track finals, clocking the second fastest time in school history.
