Central Coast Section Division V quarterfinals
Saturday's match
No. 8 University Prep Academy (13-8) at No. 1 Notre Dame (28-5), 7 p.m.
The only thing keeping the defending CCS Division V champion Spirits from a return trip to the finals is complacently.
Having played an elite schedule all year, Notre Dame is playing at a different level than most teams in Division V in this tournament.
University Prep Academy, which is based in San Jose, shared the Private School South Division title with Thomas More at 11-1, but was just 3-9 outside league play.
One of the Golden Eagles top hitters is 5-foot sophomore Melanie Chou, who finished with over 100 kills this fall. Just one player stands above 5-6.
Nikki DeSerpa is chasing 300 kills and 200 digs for the Spirits while Julia Scattini has recorded 548 assists. Mikeila Banda has been a rock in the back row with over 300 digs.
Notre Dame has compiled over 200 service aces with DeSerpa and Scattini both have 48 and Kate Lathos 41.
The Spirits are on a course to face Santa Catalina in the finals in eight days.
