Central Coast Section Division V quarterfinals
Saturday's match
No. 7 Thomas More (17-14) at No. 2 Santa Catalina (19-3), 7 p.m.
The Mission Trail Athletic League champion Cougars are a program that has continued to mature as the season has progressed.
Freshman Maria Santos has become a demon on the right side of the net for Santa Catalina with her thunderous left-handed swings, forcing double teams.
That creates opportunities for the likes of four-year starter Tatumn Satow, who began her career as a libero. That role now belongs to her sophomore sister Olivia.
Another sophomore making a big impact has been McKinney Fox, who rotates between setting and crushing balls in the front row along with Lauren Garcia.
The Knights shared the Private School South Division title with University Prep Academy at 11-1, but were 6-13 outside league play.
Senior Clare Tuttle has 280 kills this fall for Thomas More, along with 130 service aces. As a team, it produced 503 aces.
